Acne
Acne is usually caused by an excess of oil production, skin-cell buildup, bacteria and inflamation. Acne is often hormonal and or stress induced, but it can also be an allergic reaction caused by skin and hair care products, laundry soaps, phones, and habitual habits of touching the face with the hands. Many things are addressed when we are looking at a person's skin such as food allergies, iodine containing foods , prescription drugs, poor digestion, imbalance of intestinal flora, elimination, water consumption, and of course a daily skincare regime .
The traditional ways of treatment may include such things as Accutane, which has been the drug of choice for severe cases. This can cause dryness of skin, nose, mouth, lips, vaginia, itching and peeling of the palms and soles of the feet and hands, may cause high cholesteral, depression in youths. The less common side effects may include thinning of hair, body aches, liver damage.
Tetracycline which is prescribed for moderate acne, may cause a yeast overgrowth, digestive problems, and photosensivity to the sun. It works but then you will usually have to then deal with a Candida problem which is also debilitating and hard to kill.
Benzoyl peroxide is also used, but in the long run it can be very harsh and drying to the skin and may compromise the protective and anti-aging matrix within the skin cells themselves with prolonged use.
When treating acne skin, I will talk to a client about such things as food, detoxifying treatments and good food regime for healthy skin and herbs to help skin in the healing process. I like to use a combination of herbs and cell salts to help the skin cells to do what they do naturally and beautifully already; to create alive and healthy glowing skin!
